We replace Genie garage door rollers throughout Dallas for $110 to $220 installed, and our trucks carry common Genie-compatible roller sizes so we can usually complete the job the same day you call. That price includes the rollers, the labor, and our 365-day written guarantee in writing before we touch anything.
Most Dallas homeowners figure out a roller has failed because the door suddenly sounds like a box of rocks going up the track, or it shudders halfway and stalls. Sometimes the door still works but leaves black rubber dust on the track or the floor. Either way, the fix is straightforward, and it’s one of the least expensive repairs we do.
Here’s everything worth knowing before you spend a dollar: which models this applies to, what fails first, what it costs, and whether you should attempt it yourself.
Which Genie Models This Applies To
If you have a Genie sectional garage door, it rides on rollers. That covers the IntelliG series, ReliaG series, SilentMax, ChainMax, and older screw-drive models like the PowerMax and Excelerator lines. The opener model matters less than the door itself: we’re replacing the wheels that carry the door along the track, not the motor in the ceiling.
The compatibility gotcha Dallas owners hit: Genie doors use either 7/16-inch or 1/2-inch roller stems, and if someone installed the wrong stem size at some point, the roller wobbles in the hinge and eats itself in under a year. We measure on site before we swap anything. Another Texas-specific reality: original steel rollers will start grinding in six to eight years here because the heat cycles dry out the bearing grease and dust works its way in. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings run quieter and typically hold up three to five years longer in Dallas conditions.
We’re an independent service company, not affiliated with Genie. We carry OEM Genie rollers and quality aftermarket equivalents that match the original specs, so you get a choice between paying for the brand stamp or getting the same fit and function for less.

Signs Your Genie Roller Replacement Is Failing
- Grinding or scraping during operation. The roller bearing is shot and the wheel is dragging rather than rolling. You’ll hear it most at the curved part of the track where the angle changes.
- Door shudders or jerks on the way up. One or more rollers are seizing intermittently, forcing the opener to work against dead weight. This strains the motor and can trigger the opener’s force override.
- Visible flat spots or cracks on the roller wheel. Nylon and plastic rollers flatten or chunk out over time. Once they lose their round shape, they stop rolling and start sliding.
- Black rubber dust or metal shavings on the track. The roller is physically wearing down. You’ll see it accumulate along the horizontal track section and on the floor under the door.
- Door hangs uneven or comes off the track. A roller that’s failed completely can let the panel drop out of alignment. If you see the door tilted in the opening, stop using it and call us at (972) 362-1457.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Dallas, replacing Genie rollers runs $110 to $220 installed. That range covers all the rollers on a standard single or double door, depending on door size and whether we’re swapping in basic nylon or sealed-bearing rollers. The parts themselves are inexpensive, often $3 to $8 per roller. Most of the job is labor: removing the old rollers, inspecting the hinges, and reinstalling everything without dropping tension from the system.
Here’s the honest breakdown:
- Rollers only (parts): $30-$80 depending on door width and roller count
- Labor and hinge inspection: $80-$140
- Total installed price: $110-$220
The price is written down and handed to you before a single bolt is turned. No verbal estimates, no invoice surprises, no upsell pressure. And the whole job is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: 365 days from the date of repair, if a roller fails, we come back and make it right at no charge. Written, every time.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect your rollers without touching anything that’s under tension. Look at each roller where it meets the hinge, check for flat spots, and run the door once to listen for grinding. That’s useful information to share when you call.
What we don’t recommend: swapping rollers yourself on anything but the top and bottom fixtures. The bottom bracket on a Genie door connects to the lift cables, which run through a system under serious tension. Remove the wrong bolt and that cable can whip loose and cause a real injury. This is one repair where the part costs less than the risk. Call us at (972) 362-1457 and let a trained tech handle it. Aaron Teague has been diagnosing these systems long enough to spot the roller that’s about to fail, not just the one that already has.
He puts it this way: “Tell me what it is doing wrong and I will tell you exactly what it needs, no guessing, no padding the ticket.”
FAQs
Original steel rollers typically last six to eight years in Dallas before the heat and dust wear out the bearings. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings usually last eight to twelve years. If you’re hearing grinding before year five, someone may have installed the wrong stem size, and we’ll catch that during replacement. Call (972) 362-1457 for an inspection, estimates are free.
No. Once a roller bearing fails or the wheel flattens, there’s nothing to rebuild. The fix is a new roller. The saving grace is that rollers are the least expensive part of the door system, so the repair won’t hurt. We stock common Genie sizes on the truck and can usually finish the job the same day.
Replacing all rollers on a standard Genie door takes about 45 to 90 minutes, depending on door width and how many hinges need attention while we’re in there. We’ll give you a written price before we start, so you know the total before we turn a wrench.
Yes. Our trucks in Dallas carry both OEM Genie rollers and quality aftermarket equivalents in the common 7/16-inch and 1/2-inch stem sizes. We also stock parts for LiftMaster and Chamberlain openers if your Genie setup has a mixed-brand system. Call (972) 362-1457 and we’ll confirm what we have before we roll out.
